What dream are you currently turning into reality?
Traveling the world and creating art has always been the dream and has become my reality. Mixing two different areas in the creative industry for the past 10 years has been the most rewarding “pinch-me” life I didn’t know could exist. I am currently leaning further into photography projects over video production and hoping to dive further into portrait and studio work for larger brands.
When did you first realize you discovered your dream?
Oh man probably back in 2016 when I stumbled upon a job at a creative agency! I started as a Production Coordinator and the second I walked on set I fell in love with it all. Each project since then has further solidified my love for capturing stories and I couldn’t imagine a life doing anything else.
How does your faith go hand in hand with pursuing your dream?
Let’s just say God leads the charge on this dream. Ever since I was old enough to answer the question “what do you want to be when you grow up?”, I knew that I wanted to do the opposite of a normal 9-5.
Five years ago God opened the door for me to go freelance and I have been blessed with incredible work opportunities He’s provided. I handle my business by partnering with God on what work to take, when to rest, and praying before shoots to make sure I’m stewarding my gifts well.
I know my success is because I let God lead instead of trying to force anything to happen.
What’s one or two practical steps you take to keep moving forward?
I have calendar blocks every day from 7-9am and from 12-1pm so that I don’t immediately start my day on stress mode and so that I don’t skip lunch. I treat those blocks as unmoveable in order to protect my mental & physical health in an industry that can be very consuming. You can’t work on “E” forever and eventually neglecting yourself will lead to burnout.
Take time to be still: In order for growth you have to take a step back and see what ideas begin to spark. If you are constantly moving you are going to miss the opportunity to hear God and allow anything else to enter (or leave) your life. Slow down and see how inspired it will make you!
What encouragement would you share with someone who’s going after their dream?
Ask yourself if you’d regret giving up.
Don’t forget that your dream is never going to be too big for God.
The gifts you carry are tailored specifically for you and only you. Don’t let fear, comparison, or distractions get in the way of all you want to accomplish.
